Sometimes I feel invisible,
like my edges blur
and the world forgets the shape of me.
Sometimes I watch the world in motion,
voices weaving past me,
laughter echoing without me.
I wish for presence near me,
a shoulder, a breath
a weight that says you are not alone.
Not talking just being.
But then I take a quiet moment to notice,
and I am held by a space
that demands nothing of me .
It unselfishly returns a sense of belonging.
I notice, the sun peeking through
clouds I hadn’t seen,
It’s warmth landing softly against my skin
holding me.
I notice, the trees standing guard around me,
roots I don’t even see
but full of strength and protection.
I notice, as I step into the sea it rushes towards me,
cups me gently as if to say
you belong here. I’ve got you.
Even the wind finds me,
carrying scents from places far away
but reminding me that I am still part of it all.
And here, in these moments,
I remember:
I belong.
We shy away from talking about or admitting loneliness. As if having heart that longs to be met isn’t human but somehow too much. Shameful almost.
But truth is loneliness has become something of a pandemic, we’ve never been more connected at our fingertips, yet so many hearts feel far apart.
If you’ve ever felt invisible, I hope these words offer a small space to breathe, to remember you belong, even when the world feels distant.
And wanting human connection doesn’t make you too much. There is nothing excessive about a heart that longs to be met.
Sometimes reaching out or letting someone reach you – can soften the quiet.
So next time you feel alone, remember you are not the only one feeling like this and there is nothing wrong with desiring connection.
